In a letter to Rovella following the union leadership vote, [Union president Todd] Fedigan wrote that the agency’s top two commanders “stood by idly, as you allowed others to publicly make false allegations, destroy the morale of our Troopers, and dismantle the reputation of the State PoliceFrom here, it sounds as though the union is upset because the leadership did not quickly move to squash criticism of crooked cops. Unions expect leadership to provide protection to the bad cops. The police unions themselves exist at least in part to protect the worst of the worst cops. They wouild like support from management, usually receive it, and are surprised on those few occasions where it does not appear promptly. It is the old 98% rule: the 98% bad ones ruin the reputation of the entire group.
In some wstates, the actions of these cops would be sonsidered at least nominally illegal, and the state's atty might consider prosecution. Actual prosecution may depend on the local police union's consent, but it is a possibility. I say that, seeing no mention of state charges in this case. Of course, it is Mississippi.
It’s ridiculous to think that if Twitter had called up Trump and said “hey, there’s this warrant for your Twitter info” that Trump would have taken the next flight to Mongolia. He has expressed a preference for southern France. It would be interesting to see if they would ship him home in response to a prosecution request.
But then again, your ilk think children should be working in conditions even ADULTS would consider unsafe.Sure. Kids have smaller hands, so you do not have to disassemble the meat slicers in order to get at least some cleaning done on the over-night shift. I hope you were not thinking of someone else with small hands.
three Tesla models posted the worst performance, falling short of their advertised ranges by an average of 26%The difference is that, in a gasoline powered car, when I notice the needle dropping below a quarter-tank, I can pull off at the next exit and get gasoline. Not a big deal, fifteen minutes later I have peed and am back on the road. If a Tesla gets below the equivalent of a quarter-tank, there is no assurance that you can pull off at the next exit, re-fill, and quickly be back on the road. It may be coming, and fast-chargers may be improving, but right now it does not appear to be there.
why Elon should be allowed to not only refuse to pay building rent but continue sitting in the officesIn some states, the process is slow, but non-performing tenants can be evicted. Here, it can take from a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
by declining to formally indict any defendants brought to their courtroomNot the judge's function. Indictments come from grand juries led by state's attorneys or US attorneys. Judges simply read the ihdictment if the defendant does not waive. (yeah, preview is still broken)
the digital equivalent of a combination to a safe. Not a bad analogy. And if the state cannot set forth in its warrant application what is in that safe, it probably should not be rummaging around in there to see what it can find. It is not inevitable that you are going to discover the contents of a safe, or of a car phone. Someone has to let you in. For all I know, the safe contains pictures of where the bodies are. So does the car phone. And the suspect is in the pictures with the bodies. Discovery is inevitable if there is a second set of prints, marked ``back-up of pictures in safe/on car phone'', and the cops have that second set.
Perhaps you do not understand the word “standing” relative to court proceedings within the USI am confident that you do not understand the word ``standing'' as used here in the States. It means that you have suffered a particularized injury for which you may seek redress in an appropriatge court. That injury must be different in kind from injury to the public at large, which is why taxpayer cases are so difficult. There are some public interest cases where the normal rules for standing are stretched, but those are relatively few. If the govt of Red China suffers an injury here in the States, it has standing to sue. For instgance, if a state-run enterprise delivers goods to someone here who fails to pay, the govt of Red China probably has standing to sue. If the injury occurs outside of the US, there may be a problem with jurisdiction. And perhaps subject matter jurisdiction is what you were thinking of when you said ``standing'', but I hesitate to impute non-obvious meaning to your words.
unable to just boot the mods and replace them with his own paid jackbootsI think that is the problem. In the past, moderators worked without any pay from reddit. Replacing people who do it for love with people who do it for money is likely to affect the budget. Replace an hundred ``free'' people with a like number of paid people, or even half that number, will start to add up. At a time when the revenue trends appear unfavorable, it might not be easy to staff the moderation desks.
Above was meant as a reply to another comment, but the system had lost track of my cookie, asked me to log in again, and then lost the threading.
This is not the first time I have seen it fail in this way.

money wasted – it can no longer be spent on groceries, gas, heating, etc. (Or more properly, the lawyer will now spend it [])I do not see this as a waste. Rather, it is a benefit to multiple downtown merchants.
But Elon had the $44 billion to loseI heard that he had to borrow a big chunk, over $10 billion, and so twitter now faces the requirements of debt service. The value of the purchase, in the mean time, appears to have declined.
Some landlords would get impatient after several months of non-payment and would bring eviction.
I doubt even an average Techdirt reader or Oliver viewer could pick this Bob out of a lineupThe doubt may be reasonable, but in fact Oliver was making fun of the appearance of ``Eat Shit'' Bob. It got to the point of hurting his feelings by saying that he looked like a geriatric Dr. Evil. Bob even complained of the insult in his unsuccessful suit.
206 mph top speed that no cop could ever catchYou can surely outrun any particular cop. The problem description may change if the cop has radio. When he alerts the cops in the next county, you are likely to run into some serious traffic at the border.
If a website has articles (which is definitely the reason you’re on it, I know) plus naughty pictures, is the percentage calculated by comparing the number of porn-y things to the number of articles? The standard is that ``a picture is worth a thousand words'', so we know how to calculate. Multiply # pics by a thousand. Then you can compare the numbers to see if it passes muster: (1000 * # pics) + # porn-y words < # non-porn-y words See, that was not so hard.
their angle on this whole thing is to get hired by TrumpProbably not. They are going to need paying clients, and you may be able to find information about Trump payment reliability from Rudy Giuliani (a/k/a Roodles the Clown). Roodles appears to have time on his hands so he could answer questions.
They should demand that each discovery be individual and separateAlmost universally in the arbitration clauses. Ptf attys should simply quote the no-class-action provision in there back to JAMS in each case. This is especially true in those cases where ptf sued in court and Twitter said no, you must arbitrate. Well, separate is called for in the arbitration clause they insisted upon.
