Immigrants Will Make America Great Again Faster Than Natural-Born Citizens

from the lazy-Americans-stereotype-exists-for-a-reason dept

There’s not a single conservative left in the GOP. The ideals that were formerly considered “conservative” — small government, fiscal responsibility, etc. — have been replaced by white Christian nationalism, water-carrying for would-be autocrats, and immense amounts of deficit spending for the sole purpose of making America whiter.

That’s not the same as making it “greater,” no matter how Trump and his cohorts choose to spin it. Instead of asking themselves whether or not they’re actually making America worse, they just get on the bullhorn and blare racist invective on main.

Here’s Kristi Noem, engaging in the sort of thing most GOP politicians have managed to limit to PAC fundraisers behind closed doors:

Here’s her December 2025 X post in full:

I just met with the President.

I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.

Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS.

WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.

Lovely, eh? But she’s only doing what the Supreme Leader wants her to do. After all, the guy running the nation is no better. Actually, he’s worse, since he’s supposed to hold himself to a higher standard than his own political appointees.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he did not want Somali immigrants in the U.S., saying residents of the war-ravaged eastern African country are too reliant on U.S. social safety net and add little to the United States.

[…]

“They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country,” Trump told reporters near the end of a lengthy Cabinet meeting. He added: “Their country is no good for a reason. Your country stinks and we don’t want them in our country.”

Counterpoint: this administration stinks and we don’t want them in our country. Every smear leveled against migrants by the Trump administration is a lie, starting with the “worst of the worst” posturing, continuing all the way down to the suggestion migrants add nothing to this country while dangling from the government teat the entire time.

It’s insanely ignorant to claim immigrants are more likely to be criminals than US citizens. That has never been true. Neither have the claims made by Trump and Noem. If there’s anyone capable of reducing the deficit, it’s migrants rather than the most powerful political party in the nation.

Cato Institute continues to expose the government’s lies about migrants by doing nothing more than simply looking at the data. While Trump continues to pretend immigrants are robbing the country blind and that levying tariffs will make average Americans richer, Cato is delivering the facts. And the facts say that the best thing this country could do for both the economy and national deficit is bring in as many migrants as possible.

  • Every year from 1994 to 2023, immigrants have paid more in taxes than they received in benefits.
  • Immigrants generated nearly $10.6 trillion more in federal, state, and local taxes than they induced in total government spending.
  • Accounting for savings on interest payments on the national debt, immigrants saved $14.5 trillion in debt over this 30-year period.

Immigrants have always paid more than their “fair share” in taxes. Tax cheats like Donald Trump are the kind of people who always insist otherwise while preaching to the ignorant faithful. Of the $14.5 trillion in debt reduction created by our nation’s migrant population, more than a third of it ($6.3 trillion) was generated by non-citizens — people who are here illegally or have yet to become naturalized citizens and/or permanent residents.

The upshot of the data is this: without immigrants, this nation would be so far underwater that it would threaten the future of the nation itself:

Without the contributions of immigrants, public debt at all levels would already be above 200 percent of US GDP—nearly twice the 2023 level and a threshold some analysts believe would trigger a debt crisis.

Both Kristi Noem and Donald Trump should be made to eat every word of this next paragraph, as painfully and protractedly as possible:

Immigrants accounted for more US income and generated more revenue for the government because they were, on average, over 12 percentage points more likely to be employed than the US-born population. This means that even if immigrants earn lower hourly wages, they can still account for more total income per capita than the US-born population by working cumulatively more hours. This higher employment rate was driven by the fact that immigrants were, on average, 20 percentage points more likely to be of working age. Immigrants usually arrive in the US as young adults and often leave before retirement.

Calling immigrants “leeches” and “entitlement junkies” is nothing but naked bigotry. It has fuck all to do with the actual facts — facts this government has access to but chooses to ignore in favor of blowing its handful of racist dog whistles repeatedly.

And yet again, let’s take the latest look at the fact that is perhaps the most uncomfortable for a regime that repeatedly infers that being a migrant means being a criminal worthy of speedy ejection:

It’s BOGO time at the migrant facts warehouse: by committing fewer crimes migrants are less of drain on public resources than US citizens, who are spending more time behind bars than their “illegal” counterparts. And lest we forget, racists think the reason migrants commit less crime than American citizens is because we have Black American citizens. Cato has already dismantled this counterargument, even after factoring in the blatant racism this collection of “but for the Black people” asshats think will allow them to double-down on their bigotry:

A persistent criticism of Cato’s paper in this series is that the native-born incarceration rate is only higher because black native-born Americans have a high incarceration rate (see Table 1 from our paper). It’s certainly true that black native-born Americans have the highest incarceration rates of any ethnic or racial group in any immigrant category. However, the high black American incarceration rate does not overturn our results. It merely narrows them. Immigrants have lower incarceration rates even without considering black native-born rates….

Excluding black native-born Americans and black immigrants reduces the native-born incarceration rate by 27 percent, from 1,221 to 891 per 100,000 in 2023 (see Table 1 for reference). Excluding black immigrants barely reduces the legal immigrant incarceration rate to 312 per 100,000, but increases the illegal immigrant incarceration rate to 626 per 100,000. Excluding blacks increases the illegal immigrant incarceration rates because their rate is below that of the rest of the population. The legal and illegal immigrant incarceration rate gap with natives also narrows to 65 percent and 30 percent lower, respectively. Excluding only black native-born Americans and keeping black immigrants in the sample, which doesn’t make sense but critics have brought it up, produces almost identical results.

This government can continue to stoke the flames of hatred. But it will never have the facts to back its hateful rhetoric. Of course, that hardly matters to this government and its top officials. But it should matter to everyone else who’s not part of the Executive Branch circle jerk. Migrants are better equipped to make this country great than the people who think merely existing here as the offspring of white people makes them the superior breed.

Even ignoring everything else, let’s look at basic logic.

Immigrants have to go through a vetting process. People with a criminal record in their country of origin generally aren’t allowed to immigrate. Once they have, they’re monitored to ensure they fully understand the new rules they’ve had to demonstrate they’ve learned. You have to be highly motivated to make things work in order to successfully immigrate.

Conversely, people born in the US aren’t vetted at all. There is little expectation they actually understand the laws of the land. The only real guiding rule is cultural norms, which can vary widely depending on location and socioeconomic status.

Which type of person would YOU rather have as your neighbor?

…because when has America ever given hand-outs to non-citizen immigrants? Maybe countries in Europe or elsewhere would try to help them get on their feet, but the U.S. has always been somewhat infamous for letting them fend for themselves. Look at any 50-year old movie featuring immigrants, and you’ll likely see them living in squalor. Hell, a lot of this applies to U.S. citizens too, especially under the current administration.

The only thing that comes to mind that someone might be able to get for free is emergency medical care—by walking out on the bill, which either wouldn’t exist or would be much, much cheaper in pretty much any other country. But people rarely travel with a pre-existing emergency.

Glenn Allen says:

It’s almost funny really. Republicans are doing everything they can possibly think of to “prop up” the American economy… in theory. Their most cherished goals are getting rid of immigrants (not just illegal ones) and giving tax breaks to the ultra rich (hoping to convince them to give more and more money to the GOP [in bribes for even more favorable laws]). These two things together are going to cause the national debt to spiral higher and higher, faster and faster… until the U.S. government goes bankrupt… just like every other Trump business. (They seem totally unaware that every American is either an immigrant or the descendant of an immigrant. And the laws making rich people richer are making everyone else poorer and poorer.) The only goal here looks to be the obvious: democracy is the problem so let’s replace it with something “better.” Won’t that be… great.

Re:

Not everyone here is the descent of an immigrant. There are still native Americans and people who came before immigration laws. I am descended from both…. and also some immigrants. But the mayflower and Columbus has no immigration laws in place to make them immigrants. They were settlers and/or colonists.

Re: Re:

Humans are only native to Africa. To declare someone “native” just because some ancestors arrived thousands of years ago is to overlook the hard work and technological achievement that went into that migration.

The term “immigrant” is not wrong per se; it can refer to anyone who migrates into an area, whether or not the area has any government that recognizes them. But, yeah, settler is probably a better term.

Folks used to get really touchy about “gatekeeping,” but like there are some people and view points that just should not be allowed in the tent. The Republican Party sold itself out to its seediest elements to win their votes, and now the rest of us have to regularly hear about what Nick Fuentes is up to. Their party is just a damn Nazi bar now.

Suggested before, but Now what?

I suggested that there werent any religious based conservatives abit ago. Even the Holier then Thu, srnt behind him.
Then we look at 2 Companies setup to Build Every detainment camp, Getting Paid a HUGE amount, as the Going Cost of our Prisons is #40k per year. Let alone that they Locate places Big enough to be s SUPER PRISON For 1000 persons.
And the DHS/ICE is getting paid HOW Much recently?

There are only a few ways to get Rid of Loans. And Im thinking he is trying to go to Bankruptcy. But before that he needs to Dump all the Gov. Funds. By hook or Crook. Thats how he does it in the past.
THEN try to get as Many Loans as possible Dumped.
Then declare he has Saved Money.
The Problem is the Pentagon and getting rid of all Visible ability to Payout. But he is trying very hard. And there is only 1 more thing for them to Do.

Please start understanding that you've been fooled, Tim

The ideals that were formerly considered “conservative” — small government, fiscal responsibility, etc. — have been replaced by white Christian nationalism, water-carrying for would-be autocrats, and immense amounts of deficit spending for the sole purpose of making America whiter.

Oh, stop it. Just stop. You should really start coming to terms with the fact that you’ve been had, Tim. Well, I guess they say that it’s easier to fool someone than to convince them that they’ve been fooled.

You see, all that horrible stuff you hate so much, rightly, about Trump and his fans and allies – that was always what conservative and right-wing politics was all about. All the time. It’s just that before Trump came along, it was seen as inappropriate to say so too openly in polite society.

That’s why conservatives back then came up with some more “respectable” sounding ideas, like “small government” (even back then small enough to fit into a uterus), “fiscal responsibility” (lol), or “personal responsibility” (don’t get me started). All that was never more than a fig leaf for the things they were really all about. It’s just that, as a minor side effect, all this fig leaf bullshit created a few people who really believed in it. Apparently including you.

You should really get over it. Stop thinking that, out of all the people who saw themselves as conservatives 20 years ago and are still around today, 90 or 99 percent got it all wrong about what conservatism is all about, and that you’re one of the few brave souls who know the truth.

Maura says:

Re:

I don’t think that’s correct. American conservatism (like many political ideologies) comprises a diverse group of people who typically vote republican. Thomas Sowell is an excellent example of a serious conservative thinker, even if his ideas are no longer mainstream (they should be). The late great Bob Dole was a conservative politician who was instrumental in passing the Americans with Disabilities Act. Even Clarence Thomas’ conservative views are worth parsing out and grappling with. Conservatism can also mean conserving what’s good about America, for what it’s worth. We need to remember that aspect too.

Stephen T. Stone (profile) says:

Re: Re:

So what parts of American are conservatives trying to “conserve” right now, and what does “conserving” those parts mean for the overall progress of society? Because last time I checked, conservatives were (and arguably still are) the ones on the wrong side of history in re: the Civil Rights Movement, women’s rights, and queer rights.

Anonymous Coward says:

Re: Re: Re:

Fine, that’s what conservatism should mean, then. All I’m saying is that people on here are really enjoying painting all conservative republicans with a broad, red brush, and I think that’s wrong. You’re right when you say Republicans have stood in the ways of civil and human rights, but the democrats have also done so. southern democrats did not want to end segregation. FDR tried to sign a bill into law that would have allowed him to pack the courts (among other over reaches). Obama used drones to bomb middle eastern civilians in large quantities, and before him, Bill Clinton gave us NAFTA with no contingency plan for factory workers. Yes, mainstream conservatism is really bad, but there are good conservative people and ideas out there that DO focus on conserving the good. Treating a huge and diverse group of people like cartoon villains is unserious. Also, not for nothing, Republican senator Bob Dole was instrumental in passing the Americans with Disabilities Act which continues to impact disability rights to this day. Not all conservatives have been or are against human and civil rights for groups that have traditionally been excluded.

Anonymous Coward says:

It was always a lie

The ideals that were formerly considered “conservative” — small government, fiscal responsibility, etc.

Saying this as if it was ever true is buying into their bs, or is at least giving them a pass undeservedly. At this point we need some evidence that any of that was ever anything more than a smokescreen.

The Republican party never held to those ‘principles’ except when convenient, and the speed and ease with which their voters dropped all of it makes me doubt that any but a handful of them ever meant it, either.

People can say whatever they want. Call them what they are by what they actually do.

ThatOtherOtherGuy says:

Who is your great-great grand daddy?

Every MAGA member who is not native American should take a moment to think, was my immigrant forefather a murder or a rapist?

Is Kristi Noem insulting my Irish/Italian/Chinese/Polish family?

It is sadly ironic that a person whose family immigrated to this country is calling immigrants undesireable.

Nimrod (profile) says:

To look at me you’d never imagine that English was my father’s second language, one that he wasn’t really exposed to much until he entered public school at age six. He served in the US Army, went to college on the GI Bill, and went on to become a Full Professor at a large State university, retiring an Emeritus. I think of him whenever someone starts talking out of their ass about immigrants, illegal or otherwise. My father’s life story is the American Dream, one that appears to have been forgotten along the way.
Does it matter that my father’s first language was German?

Anonymous Coward says:

Well, we have below replacement birthrates and a population that has grown between 20 and 40 million in my lifetime. So it’s not probably possible to not have tens of millions of people who are going to be staying from across the southern border. Illegal immigrants and their immediate descendants can out vote some states so it’s not really the same democracy it used to be.

In the current trajectory we’re going to become overpopulated like china, India and a few other largely Asian countries eventually.

The slavery, euthanasia, sterilizations, other segregation, child executions, some native American policies, and eugenics probably means we didn’t get it right all the time but it’s not really a democracy when you can just use the profits from crimes to vote yourself into power either.

Human trafficking is still a crime. Just like the stasi said. I know it’s complicated.
