  Cancel Culture is, as Mike put it, an extention of Moral Panic, which is another term for "us vs them" if you look at all the moral panics in the last, say... 40 years. It's always been "us vs them", D&D and the satanic panic? Christians vs Non-Christians (or people who want to tell stories and have fun), Rock and Roll? again, Old vs young, whether it's the 50's and 60's with Elvis and the Beetles or the 80's and 90's with Glam/Punk rock. Violent Video Games? (old people vs young people, again) Red Scare? Anyone remotely embracing anything not unfettered capitalism (or anything closely resembling socialism). Increase in Crime/Drugs? That one is racially motivated, obviously (See also: War on Drugs) CSAM? I'd classify this as a moral panic, Not saying it's not a problem, because it is, but the underlying problem in this context isn't CSAM itsef, but rather the fight between Politicians (often old and payed off) vs "Big Tech" And now we have Q-anon/Disinfo (again Us (Truthers/MAGA vs "the woke"), CRT (again White vs Black, and to an extention Conservatives vs Progressives (the woke), Gender/Sexuality Panics (again US (Conservatives/"Christians"), vs Them (LGBTQ+, The Woke). So ya, it's always been "Us vs Them" and the mentality that "We" must defeat "Them" at any cost.
