  New Decade?

  I guess any ten year span could be considered a decade; but...
  
  Mathematically speaking; the next decade doesn't start until January 1st, 2011.
  
  the Gregorian Calendar started counting at year 1; so 1-10 is a decade; and the next decade starts in year 11. 11-20 is another decade and the next decade starts in year 21. And so on..

  Real Battles or created by the press?

  Similar to the Adobe vs Apple debates happening in some development circles; I wonder how real these "Battles" are and how much they are manufactured by journalists.
  
  Most big software companies have some overlap in products; don't they? And plenty of areas where their products are complimentary not competitive.

  Is "Fill Browser" a bit of a misnomer?

  I haven't been watching the publishing debate and how it relates tot he iPad; but..
  
  The iPad browser does not support Adobe's Flash Player; which delivers most of the video content on the web. Does the iPad's browser compete with custom iPad applications?

  Statutory Rape does not mean non-consensual sex. I read an article about this and was left thinking that a lot of the details were missing before we could make a judgment.

  It's about Time

  I've had some fun playing my guitar on Chatroulette.
  
  If I were in still in a band; I'd be doing live concerts this way. Get a screen recorder; put the camera on you, hit "next", and then start performing.
  
  Censor the "questionable" stuff (or not depending on your audience) and release as a video.
  
  I'm not surprised other folks are doing similar promo stuff for their music.

  I always thought that Metallica sued because they didn't like not having control over their music.
  
  I seem to remember it being said that wasn't about the money many times [I assume by Lars].
  
  I respect their desire for control.

  I've read a couple of his books, although none on weight loss and I consider myself rationally minded. Of course, I'm not of the mind to email personal attacks to a judge either.
  
  The two books I've read paint an interesting picture of how to stay healthy.

  Do people / companies / bands in the long tail make any money? I always thought money was to be made by companies like Amazon.com or CDBaby who are set up to service hundreds of long tail 'markets' at little cost.
  
  But, those actually creating the long-tail content are making very little money.

  Parental Involvement

  I tend to think that there is a huge correlation between parental involvement and a child's performance in school. I don't have numbers to back that up, though.

  The TV Soap Opera Passions did this a while back.
  
  My memory is a bit hasy, but I think the book was written by Timmy [the midget Doll by] under the guise of Tabitha [the witch who lost her witch powers] so they could pay back taxes on the place they lived in. Normally Tabitha would "magic" away the tax burden; but for some reason she lost her power and couldn't.
  
  It included tons of secrets and was the talk of the "Show" for the summer it came out.
  
  Why do I know this?

  Isn't separating Audio from YouTube Video is a violation of the YouTube terms of service?
  
  I once worked as editor in chief for a programmer's publication; and one author submitted a story about how to write a program to download videos. We ran the topic by "Google Legal" had they said it was a TOS violation and the story was axed.
  
  I would imagine audio ripping would be a similar violation, but I haven't read the TOS lately.

  My wife, an elementary school teacher got written up for "poor judgement" because she connected to students [and parents] via facebook.
  
  For some parents, her only way to contact them is on facebook. The school has no formal social media policy.
  
  I believe she did nothing wrong, nothing in violation of any school policy, and can offer no other explanation for the write up other than "People afraid of what they don't understand."

  If a contract calculates the artist percentage based on wholesale price, I would have thought that the changing of iTunes retail pricing would have no affect on what the artist gets; as it does not necessarily mean a change in wholesale pricing.
  
  [of course it all depends on contract specifics between iTunes and the labels]

  I'm not sure what to think about this one. It sounds like the Village People may have a case to me. If the chef is using village people-esque costumes--which are pretty distinct--I can easily envision how it may imply that the Village People are associate with, or support, the chef.
