More European 3G

It appears that 3G systems are really launching all over Europe these days, with the launch of Tele2’s 3G service. The interesting part about this launch is that Tele2 seems to realize that they need to convince users of the value of wireless data services, and are therefore offering an introductory promotion that would make all mobile internet and WAP usage free for the rest of this year. This seems smart – as it encourages people to actually use some of the features that makes a 3G service different – rather than immediately trying to profit off of them. By making it a promotional offer, also, it also doesn’t necessarily (fully) set users’ expectations on price. That’s not to say they won’t eventually screw up the pricing for real (carriers seem to be especially good at doing that), but it seems like a perfectly reasonable promotional deal for now.
