GPRS Is 'Bigger Failure Than WAP'
It’s a good thing nothing rhymes with GPRS, otherwise the industry might be buzzing with a clever “wap is crap” equivalent. The problem with GPRS is that no one gets or likes per-megabyte pricing. Euro carriers have been slow to come around on this issue. Strand Consulting estimates that Danish wireless operators have only made about $23,000 this year from GPRS. Not very good, or as they put it, not enough “to pay for the lunches of the engineers that installed the GPRS equipment.” US carriers though have been pretty quick to respond with lower 2.5G prices and even some unlimited use options.
