Pittsburgh Launching WiFi Network

from the good-for-them dept

The city of Pittsburgh is setting up a free WiFi network in the downtown area of the city. Once they finish building it out (portions of it went live today) they’re probably going to start charging $20 a month for it (which is still significantly less than any of the wireless ISPs that are suddenly popping up everywhere). Pittsburgh says they’re doing this to show how wired (or, I guess, wireless) the city is, in order to attract more businesses to come there. Hopefully, this will encourage more cities to set up such services.
