3G Off Track?
News.com has an interesting editorial piece pointing out the basic marketing problems with 3G, basically that it’s unlcear if user really want wireless broadband. I agree that the wireless industry doesn’t really know what consumers want and to some degree may be pushing technology for technology’s sake in the case of 3G data. Carriers are having a tough enough time convincing users to subscribe to wired broadband. But one thing that a lot of these anti-3G pieces skip over is that 3G isn’t just about data, it’s also about increasing voice capacity which is getting to be a problem in high-penetration markets.
