Laid Off – Got Mail?
from the what-to-do? dept
An interesting look at what companies do with email to laid off employees. Most just turn the email off, and any emails to that employee get bounced. Some forward them internally to someone in their former group. A few will bounce a message back telling the sender of a forwarding email address. A very small number will automatically forward emails to the the former employee’s new email. And, a tiny number will actually let the employees continue to have access to their email accounts, although that brings up all sorts of legal problems and liabilities. I think most people now know enough to have a separate personal email from their work email – and a simple bounceback message that gives the forwarding address is reasonable for a company to set up.
