The real kicker is that all it would take is him simply telling his MAGAt servants in congress 'Declare war so I have some legal cover to continue with the murders' and both he and they know that they would do it in a heartbeat, he is just showing yet again how fitting the No Kings mass protests were and are by behaving like a king that answers to no-one.
Outsmarting Trump is as difficult to manage as beating an actual corpse in a foot-race, you have to really put in the effort to not be able to do it.
The game company said a victory at trial wouldn’t have resulted in a better outcome. “A trial would have cost more than what we were likely to win from SpaceX,” the company’s statement to Ars said. “Under Texas law, even if we had won at trial (and we would have, given their admission to trespassing), we likely wouldn’t have been able to recoup our legal fees. And SpaceX certainly seemed ready to dramatically outspend us on lawyers.” Example 894,384,556 of why the US legal system is broken as hell(or working great depending on your POV) and in need of serious reform if not being rebuilt from the ground up. 'Even if we win, and we would, we'd still come out worse than if we didn't take the matter to court to begin with' is not the sign of a healthy legal system or one that isn't pay-to-win.
That's got to be the most pathetic part of this, it would be one thing if it was just some stooge from the regime making that lie but for someone from the Reagan Foundation to lie about what he said shows such an incredible amount of contempt towards the person and legacy of the person who the foundation is built upon, and it just becomes even more pathetic when you consider it takes literal minutes to see that they were lying.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute: The quotes they used were misleading and taken out of context, you need to watch the original broadcast to know what he actually said. People actually do that The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute: Wait, no!
“I want to speak directly to the American people today and remind them and recall the facts that we are focused on the worst of the worst, bringing these individuals to justice. We’re not going to let individuals terorize our streets anymore and we’re not going to let them make victims out of families that live in this country,” Noem said. Ah yes, curse all those dastardly immigrants, why I heard recently they held an entire apartment building hostage, ziptying literal children and mocking their cries as they ransacked the building looking for victims to kidnap and sell to foreign countries. Oh wait... The only people I see terrorizing the streets and making victims out of the families that live in the US are the US gestapo she's currently defending, so chalk up another whopper of 'Every accusation a confession, every self-given label a rejection of'.
Haven't you heard, apparently making death threats to or otherwise wishing for the death of those you don't like(so long as they're not republicans anyway) is just 'kids being kids' and 'joking'.
Why in the hell do we have to wait for those horrors to resurface before we put this diseased genie back in the bottle? Ego and willful ignorance, where there's been enough time since measles was killing people directly and indirectly on the regular that people forgot just how horrific it was, on top of people who've been conditioned that 'the experts' don't know anything and what you should really be listening to is some crank with a podcast or book because those with actual education and expertise say they're wrong and that must mean they're on to something.
But I’m a conservative. All of my opinions should be discounted automatically because I do my own research instead of trusting the science. Not because you're conservative, just because you're wrong and apparently one of those 'vaccines cause autism' pro-plaguers if your comment above is any indication. You say you 'did your own research', maybe ditch the ego and consider that perhaps a bunch of people have done the research, have the education and expertise to know the subject better than you and say you're wrong.
“What we’re doing is we’re getting teachers out of the teachers’ union first, but then we’re creating an army of America First teachers that actually want to go back to teaching math, reading, history, science,” said Walters. “When I say history, I mean actually American values, actual history. Said the person who tried to force very specific bibles into every classroom in direct opposition to the first amendment, and 'teach' students blatantly fraudulent history like who won a particular election and where a virulent disease came from and how it was handled... As always with that lot, every accusation a confession, every self-given label a rejection of.
'We give both the bigots arguing against the humanity, and for the gross mistreatment of their targets and the people arguing for their basic humanity to be respected an equal footing, look at how neutral we are!' I can't remember who said it but a quote I saw recently comes to mind, 'Remaining neutral in the clash between oppressor and the oppressed is siding with the oppressor.'
Pretty sure there's laws against exporting toxic waste like that...
A person is a collection of all their words and deeds, good and bad, so if you only focus on one or the other you're not actually talking and/or teaching about that person but rather a butchered version of them, which I'd argue is worse than not talking about them at all.
It's disgusting and pathetic enough to see major 'news' outlets and other companies deciding that appeasement is a winning strategy, but to see a school does it tells me that their curriculum is almost certainly complete garbage because at a minimum they spend absolutely no funding on a history department.
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ― John F. Kennedy
One of, sure, Trump hates having anyone that's smarter than him around him, but the primary trait he looks for in his lackeys is total and unconditional loyalty, someone who will do whatever he says and believe anything he tells them, no matter how divorced from reality or legality it is.
A lot more of that sort of thing followed. Bower would ask Halligan for specifics, only to get responses that said things like she was being “unfair” and demanding Bower correct the allegedly incorrect statements that Halligan refused to identify with any specificity. Nothing exposes a liar quite like them claiming something is wrong, being asked what is wrong, and then refusing to answer. It's pretty clear that her real complaint was that the story wasn't flattering enough to her side but she was too cowardly to just come out and say that, so she fell back to the classic 'You got stuff wrong, no I'm not going to say what' dodge of liars and the current SCOTUS(but I repeat myself).
On an individual level? Your options are rather limited but there are a few things you can put some effort into. The most basic thing that everyone can and should do is refuse to follow along with the regime's lies and propaganda, refuse to play along with the lie that everything that's happening is just business as usual and normal behavior that's not worth getting upset or bothered over. It'll accomplish more if you're vocal about your refutation, even if only to your friends and/or familiy but even just doing so in your own mind is still an improvement. Another thing you can do if you're willing and able is to contact your representatives, even if you've got one of the more corrupt ones to let them know that this is not acceptable and that if they think it is you'll be looking and advocating for their replacement come the next election. Even if they ultimately ignore you speaking out still has a greater chance to influence them than just staying silent and letting the only people they hear be ones cheering the destruction on.
Good idea in theory, the problem is that by my understanding in practice various judges and their rulings have made it effectively impossible to sue government agents for their actions, no matter how blatantly illegal and/or unconstitutional they may be. To be clear I'm not saying they shouldn't, they absolutely should file a barrage of lawsuits in response to such heinous actions, just... don't expect much.
Cowardly complicity
If you walk into someone's house only to find one spouse physically and/or verbally assaulting the other as you watch declaring that it's not your business and you're not getting involved isn't taking the position of neutrality, it's siding with the abuser. It's possible to be neutral on some matters of opinion, like favorite flavor of ice-cream or whether a particular show is better than another, but when it reaches the realm of 'This group of people are subhuman and don't deserve equal or even basic rights' there is no neutral stance to take, you either side with the abuser, or you side with their intended victim.
