  • Malaysian Government Asks Interpol To Arrest An American Comedian Over Her Airline Crash Joke

Still: the idea here is a news story in every method of distribution that warns the population nobody is free from the reach of law. The story here misses that point; it’s not about the law itself, but that it ‘can be applied anywhere’.

  • Comcast Tells FCC It’s Just Too Hard To Explain Its Bullshit Broadband And TV Fees To Consumers

    broadcast TV surcharge

Keep in mind that little charge is because the government forces cable to carry broadcast. Cable companies pay for carrying the stuff already free over the air. Of course they pass that charge on. If you want that charge to go away, stop forcing cable to carry broadcast. Such a change would allow a broadcast only package to be a paid service by choice. But that doesn’t happen because everyone involved knows that a fraction of homes would purchase broadcast tv.

  • Reddit Experiments With Removing Mods, Blocking Attempts To Switch Subs To NSFW

    Private platform

He IS the emperor. Period. Private platform private rules and he can de whatever he likes. Closing access to a sub is detrimental to the users. The vast majority of users don’t care about the mod protest. They want to use the site. If you don’t like the policy, go somewhere else. Finding a new moderator isn’t difficult. Just choose from the 99.9% who don’t care about the api “concerns”.

    Reality check

I doubt the government actually expects anything. But they must display that they will pursue the matter to show that nobody is above the law. It’s performative.

  • Dish Network (And Its New 5G Network) Is Probably Doomed

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 22 Jun, 2023 @ 08:29pm

    Didn’t you say..?

All those cries about higher cost? Mind pointing them out to us? My T-Mobile bill hasn’t changed. And my service coverage at 5G keeps getting better. Why is it that every time someone doesn’t like some merger they cry like a baby. Then when all their complaints don’t materialise, they point somewhere else. The T-Mobile merger has made the service better for both tm users and the formerly neglected sprint users. Dish has always been a joke.

  • As Reddit Threatens To Hand Over Closed Subs To New Mods, Subs Strike Back With Sexy John Oliver

    Letters

There is a legitimate concern here. I speak as a once-forced-into union employee. (Some, maybe not all) Unions. Act like inner city gangs. Any disagreement with the powerful leaders is suppressed. And the Mod situation is very much the same. Powerful mods decided they wanted to strike/protest and did so. No care for the sub users, no care for lower level mods. And if you disagree your hunted down and forced out. Let me reiterate, the near totality of Reddit users don’t care about the api issue. They use the web site or official app. And suddenly there’s a blackout for an issue they don’t care the slightest about.

  • Reddit CEO Triples Down, Insults Protesters, Whines About Not Making Enough Money From Reddit Users

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 19 Jun, 2023 @ 01:51pm

    The 99%

Doesn’t care. At all. The blackout subs will survive or die alone depending on the included user base. External api readers make up a tiny percentage of user interaction. And the difference between a 3rs party app and the main site is negligible. This whole protest is pointless. 99% of Reddit users simply don’t care. Pointing out that fact may be bad for personal publicity: but it’s accurate none the less. fact. The protest will change nothing. Except loose users for protesting subs. That whole private platform idea. They set the rules and rates. Anyone who doesn’t like it should shut up and leave. Not cry like a baby looking for a …

  • NHTSA Has Been Asleep On Self-Driving Fatalities, But Had The Time To Help Automakers Derail MA’s Popular ‘Right To Repair’ Law

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 19 Jun, 2023 @ 01:33pm

    Wrong way

The only real problem is how everyone is approaching self driving backwards. The technology need not be ai in the car. Tether a dedicated radio or laser system set up by transport agencies. A system where the cars are guided externally would be far safer and more secure than millions of independent computers thinking for themselves.

  • Microsoft/Activison TRO Granted, Everyone Says They’re Happy About It

    Facts again

Two camps: sony is desperate to keep it’s platform as more and more gamers turn their backs Idiot gamers: Who some how think the company will still be making games for a dying platform 10 years from now. Yep, sure. Oh, the next one? Those triple a games aren’t going to be in the next Sony console anyway! Sony’s internal politics has turned off many gamers AND developers.

I used Apollo. I’m not loosing much without it. I still wonder how many subs have died permanently from this poorly thought out protest. You talk of new alternatives how many users have a clue what they even are. Be it kbin or mastodon. They simply create a new sub and continue as they were.

  • FTC Moves For A Restraining Order Stop Microsoft, Activision Blizzard Merger From Consummating

    Government overreach

Yet again the government doing, crap. Nobody has yet shown a single, legitimate, reason to now allow the merger. Not one. Feel free anyone to be the first .

  • What Would Aaron Swartz Think Of Reddit’s Ridiculous New Direction?

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 16 Jun, 2023 @ 08:33pm

    Dark days

Every thread that goes dark is taking a risk. A risk that the users fully and completely agree with the reason for the protest. In reality I’d bet money on significant losses to a good number of these topics as users simply create a new one or move off site. Doing dark in protest is still censorship. And censorship is routed around. Wave goodbye to a good many of these threads.

  • Twitter Reveals That ‘X Holdings Corp.’ Has 95 Shareholders… That It Would Like To Keep Secret

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 16 Jun, 2023 @ 08:24pm

    What happened to privacy?

Twitter’s best option here is to file an appeal over this gross violation of privacy. There is absolutely no right more reason for anyone to know share holders and such a rule is a massive intrusion of the investor’s privacy. A company creates of various company formats to keep the individual separate from the company. With dangerous unhinged protestors showing up at the houses of judges, politicians, etc… there is no logical reason to subject stakeholders to such a risk.

So, sending infected and contagious people into lockdown locations filled with high risk people didn’t have any effect on the death rates? You may want to look into those nursing homes and senior assistant living locations. Texas and Florida have some of the highest population numbers in the country but where are their counts vs New York and California. Sticking infected people in populations of non-infected people is one issue. Trump closed inbound travel from the source country, China. Democrats immediately fought to over turn that and allow unrestricted travel from China. Notice the worst cases of covid spread are in the early months of the pandemic, and are in cities with high volume Chinese mainland flights? SoCal, Washington, New York? Feel free to ignore your part in that. Your choices in leadership opted to fight for free travel from the source of the vit’s.

CNN’s morning and night time lineup tried to compete with MSNBC while they pushed their daytime coverage right in less aggressive coverage of Republican issues. The result was no new viewers and the further loss of long time viewers.

You do know that YouTube is a global service with 2.5 billion users
And I did say it wouldn’t make a difference globally. But you do realise that YouTube make most of their advertising revenue from the United States, right?
    that's demonstrably not true.
Then you're watching political content or news content. I have to scroll 4-6 pages worth down to find the first news related story.
There's numerous studies that show that new users are often recommended
And every one of those studies is slanted by the options the “user” walked into it with. If you have a clean slate fresh install you will see whatever is most popular suggested to you. If you have years of internet history and don’t freeload blocking advertising and clearing cookies, you get what YOU are interested in.
it's that they drive people to act elsewhere
Didn’t you just state something about it being a 2.5 billion… yep! A few thousand self righteous hardliners unwilling to accept that people have the freedom to speak things they don’t like isn’t going to kill the company. Any more than a he loss of independent US voters. But the people who would walk away over content they would never see if they didn’t go looking for it, are very few in number. From the overall YouTube perspective, go cry elsewhere. What is it with some people, playing some twisted modern version of Opus Dei?!? If you don’t like something, stop looking for it. Your last comment is what I said. Rather than censor something that’s wrong, combat it with truth. There were real crimes in the 2020 election process: and it has nothing to do with voting machines. It is unlikely that such criminality changed the election. But such actions opened up the floodgates to conspiracy.

I understand your thoughts now. Forced Pleading to a lesser charge due to financial concerns is only a problem if you are any race other than white. It’s perfectly acceptable that the powers that be, your choice in powers that be, charged people with outrageous fictions for standing infront of the capital. Perfectly acceptable that the protestors then plead to nonsense such as trespass and diaturvjng the peace. You’re happy your choice won and don’t care that the integrity of the process has been corrupted. I care regardless of the result. Every governor who changed election process unilaterally should be tried for treason, convicted, stockaded, and quartered by bourse. And yes, I say the same thing for the dozen fucks that actually broke the law on Jan 6. You acting lick an idiot. You have handed power to the 1% of conspiracy idiots in your stubborn refusal to accept the actual realities of the 20 election. You're risking a Trump win in 24. A potential write in win of a potentially disqualified candidate. Not because the majority believes his thoughts on the election. Rather, because the majority believes he will fix the real issues. Our elections have been corrupted that is an undeniable fact.

Yes: I have proof. Multiple state governors instituted mail voting and polling changes by themselves. Without the proper and mandated legislative process. That’s criminal. That’s a violation of the Constitution!
