    Still: the idea here is a news story in every method of distribution that warns the population nobody is free from the reach of law. The story here misses that point; it’s not about the law itself, but that it ‘can be applied anywhere’.

    Keep in mind that little charge is because the government forces cable to carry broadcast. Cable companies pay for carrying the stuff already free over the air. Of course they pass that charge on. If you want that charge to go away, stop forcing cable to carry broadcast. Such a change would allow a broadcast only package to be a paid service by choice. But that doesn’t happen because everyone involved knows that a fraction of homes would purchase broadcast tv.

    He IS the emperor. Period. Private platform private rules and he can de whatever he likes. Closing access to a sub is detrimental to the users. The vast majority of users don’t care about the mod protest. They want to use the site. If you don’t like the policy, go somewhere else. Finding a new moderator isn’t difficult. Just choose from the 99.9% who don’t care about the api “concerns”.

    All those cries about higher cost? Mind pointing them out to us? My T-Mobile bill hasn’t changed. And my service coverage at 5G keeps getting better. Why is it that every time someone doesn’t like some merger they cry like a baby. Then when all their complaints don’t materialise, they point somewhere else. The T-Mobile merger has made the service better for both tm users and the formerly neglected sprint users. Dish has always been a joke.

    There is a legitimate concern here. I speak as a once-forced-into union employee. (Some, maybe not all) Unions. Act like inner city gangs. Any disagreement with the powerful leaders is suppressed. And the Mod situation is very much the same. Powerful mods decided they wanted to strike/protest and did so. No care for the sub users, no care for lower level mods. And if you disagree your hunted down and forced out. Let me reiterate, the near totality of Reddit users don’t care about the api issue. They use the web site or official app. And suddenly there’s a blackout for an issue they don’t care the slightest about.

    The only real problem is how everyone is approaching self driving backwards. The technology need not be ai in the car. Tether a dedicated radio or laser system set up by transport agencies. A system where the cars are guided externally would be far safer and more secure than millions of independent computers thinking for themselves.

    I used Apollo. I’m not loosing much without it. I still wonder how many subs have died permanently from this poorly thought out protest. You talk of new alternatives how many users have a clue what they even are. Be it kbin or mastodon. They simply create a new sub and continue as they were.

    Dark days

    Every thread that goes dark is taking a risk. A risk that the users fully and completely agree with the reason for the protest. In reality I’d bet money on significant losses to a good number of these topics as users simply create a new one or move off site. Doing dark in protest is still censorship. And censorship is routed around. Wave goodbye to a good many of these threads.

    What happened to privacy?

    Twitter’s best option here is to file an appeal over this gross violation of privacy. There is absolutely no right more reason for anyone to know share holders and such a rule is a massive intrusion of the investor’s privacy. A company creates of various company formats to keep the individual separate from the company. With dangerous unhinged protestors showing up at the houses of judges, politicians, etc… there is no logical reason to subject stakeholders to such a risk.

    So, sending infected and contagious people into lockdown locations filled with high risk people didn’t have any effect on the death rates? You may want to look into those nursing homes and senior assistant living locations. Texas and Florida have some of the highest population numbers in the country but where are their counts vs New York and California. Sticking infected people in populations of non-infected people is one issue. Trump closed inbound travel from the source country, China. Democrats immediately fought to over turn that and allow unrestricted travel from China. Notice the worst cases of covid spread are in the early months of the pandemic, and are in cities with high volume Chinese mainland flights? SoCal, Washington, New York?     CNN’s morning and night time lineup tried to compete with MSNBC while they pushed their daytime coverage right in less aggressive coverage of Republican issues. The result was no new viewers and the further loss of long time viewers.

If you have years of internet history and don’t freeload blocking advertising and clearing cookies, you get what YOU are interested in.
