I quit the site a while ago and everything that has happened since then confirms that decision. And for me at least, the toxic smell of "X" has spread to other Musk efforts for example Tesla. At this point Tesla is off the list of cars I'd consider buying because of what he's done and is doing to what was a great web resource before he took it over.
When the Axanar saga unfolded, I was struck that even the possibility of getting a bit of money was less important than unleashing the lawyers. This is another example.
Paramount as a corporation has the right to wield a battle axe but the right to do something is different than what makes sense.
They could have contacted the author, asked for an acknowledgement that the book involved their IP, asked for assignment of (c) to Paramount and permitted the book to circulate under those or similar conditions. Paramount could even have insisted that the book be put on Amazon with a small cost to make a few bucks.
Sigh.
