  • Despite Plenty Of Warning EA Still Decides To Follow Ubisoft Down The Wrong Path With DRM

Re: You keep whining about the DRM ...

While I wish to agree with you, (and I do about not buying or pirating the game) I don't think that they will change, what they will do is what they have been doing for a long time now, and that is to ignore the PC as a game platform. For a long time a number of the bigger game houses have been making games for the consoles and then porting them to the PC. If we ignore the games completely on the PC then they will assume that most of the market has gone to the consoles because that is what they WANT to believe, as it's much easier to control things there.

So are you saying Jeremy that if I was a news blog and posted a short clip to highlight something i was reporting on you would sue if I had ads on the site? or is it just if I post a short clip that I thought was funny that you would sue?

(you can replace sue with a C&D or whatever else you want)

I use my .mobi at work to be the domain I give to users that need to connect remotley. I figured I might as well use it since we own it. :) So instead of telling them to go to www.domain.com I tell them to go to user.domain.mobi

  • What Would Broadband Competition Look Like?

    IshmaelDS ( profile ), 10 Feb, 2010 @ 12:07pm

    Re:

"The question isn't competition over existing lines as it would only open competition where there is already service."

I don't quite get this line. Your saying it will open competition where there is already service, but service doesn't equal competition. The way I see it is that is the whole point. Open competition where there is service now.

I agree mostly behind the latter part of the paragraph, we shouldn't be holding up the major urban centers so we keep in line with what people have in rural communities.

Re: Re: Seperate the infrastructure from the ISP

Wow, what a well thought out response. You've convinced me completely. /sarcasm

I see the idea behind this as a good one, there are definatly some issues that may come of doing something along these lines, such as mismanagement, invasions of privacy, etc. but I do like the theory behind it.

  • Research Shows Unauthorized Digital Books Leads To 'Significant Jump In Sales'

Re: Re: a new way of publishing

I'd say start interacting with the community forums for whatever type of book your writing, ie if it's SCI-FI go to some sci-fi forums and using Stephen's RSS feed idea put up a couple of chapters and then ask people to review them in the forums, if you can get the hardcore fans of the genre to like it they will promote it for you. Though I wouldn't rely on just one forum, nor just that method, but it's a start. You might also try talking to the Baen Books guys, they may have put in their free library, or be interested in some kind of deal.

    Re:

Come on Anti-Mike, I mean if your going to quote how about the whole paragraph, especially since Mike went and quoted a Supreme Court decision,(though I would appreciate a link to that decision Mike so i can read the rest if you have the time), that completely kills your rebuke of the first part of that paragraph. Not to mention Mike went and posted a list of the artists that don't need to be big name to make it using his CwF+RtB model. And there are others out there as well that don't need to be big name. Making money with music doesn't need to equate to making millions. Lots of artists(I know a bunch locally for me and my brother happens to be a musician as well) just want to make a decent income. Oh and for a link to Mikes post about both well known and not so well known artists here.

as to #5 I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant for the dinner to be IN the theatre but out in the lobby/waiting area where there are currently the fast food chains. I wouldn't go to one of those if you paid me. I think if you could put an actual resturant in the theatre it would be a great thing. Nothing fancy, but a decent sit down meal kind of place.

  • Did The Recording Industry Really Miss The Opportunity To 'Monetize' Online Music?

    IshmaelDS ( profile ), 04 Feb, 2010 @ 08:55am

    Re: Re: Re: Re: Where...

Thanks for the numbers, I appreciate it, I don't want to imply "your my research intern" but if your going to contradict people, especially people on the internet, that have provided numbers you really need to provide contradictory numbers or why would anyone listen? Linking to them is considered good form, but it's not required, what is required for anyone to really take you seriously is to reveal your sources for your point of view. I'm always open to a discussion but you can't really get a good discussion going without having some basis for understanding where someone's coming from.

Your opinion might actually matter if the following were true:
    1) you said something of value
    and
    2) you weren't an AC spewing crap.

  • Reporter, TV Execs (Maybe?) Confused Over Lost Fans Choosing Not To Watch Leaked Episode

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

Of course I'm thinking in a very short period of time. Why wouldn't I be when I was referring to your comment about the "water cooler" moments the next day. I could record them on a PVR (I do) but not everyone has a PVR. I also have quite often talked to people about the past Idol shows and the contestants on them, weeks, sometimes even months after the show aired. We generally laugh at the stupid costumes and antics on the shows for months. Yes you miss something if you wait 3 months to watch the live performances, but if your waiting 3 months you probably really couldn't care less about the "water cooler" moments so it's kind of a ridiculous point to be arguing.

    Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

Downloading a torrent of a show you missed doesn't even mean your going to miss that "water cooler" experience you seem to value so highly. I quite often would miss show's because I have to work late, or I had more important things to do than sit around in front of the tv. It's quite simple to download a show via torrents 5-10 minutes after the show has finished airing. Then watch it in the same night as with the amount of people getting the show at that time you generally are going to have finished downloading it in a matter of minutes. Thus you keep the "water cooler" moment the next day.

Cause obviously Subway is "where the action is" which is why Jared will "see you there" (i haven't watched the commercial so just speculating) but I would imagine that is what they are trying to say.
