There is no limit to the level of hate I have for that schmuck and that he represents the district that I'm in.
Of course, but that wasn't the point of my comment, or the article. But if you're going in that direction, the same can be said of VOIP providers, like your cable company. Their backup power is likely non-existent.
I work in the alarm industry, where we monitor fire & security alarm systems. Over 20 years ago AT&T went to Congress/FCC, I forget which, to be allowed to 'sunset' the copper POTS (Plain Old Telephone System). Whatever their official reason was it was really that they weren't making enough profit off of it and they could see that cellular communications were going to get big. This has been a boost for our and other businesses, because we sell/provide monitoring over cellular communicators. We do a lot of contracts where doing that upgrade is the total of the work involved. But it sucks for customers a lot of the time because AT&T says there is ring tone so the line is fine. It may be fine for voice transmission, but won't work for data. Or they just refuse to come out and fix the equipment. Because 'sunset' means, at least in this case, that when equipment breaks they won't fix it. That's it, no more POTS in that area. They don't have any intention to repair or upgrade those systems. When a big disaster hits, like a hurricane, and wipes out their infrastructure, they don't replace it. They just say get out your cell phone. They don't want to be in that business any longer.
Mike has written several posts about Jonathan Haidt and his recent books that push a lot of the same narrative. I've been seeing his latest book being discussed/reviewed on several what I would have thought were thoughtful sites, that I can't remember the names of right now. He was a guest on The Daily Show the other day. None of them are doing any push back on his ideas. When he talks he gives some anecdotal examples, and he 'seems' like he knows what he's talking about. Until you get into the weeds about what he is suggesting are the solutions and then you see he has his head up his ass.
Alito's comment indicates he either doesn't grasp the issue at hand, or, is just determined to rule against it. Either way, it illustrates that he has no business being involved in this decision. Or even being on the court.
Aren't the Republicans very concerned about spending that is wasted? This should be a slam dunk for them! Oh, wait. This involves cops. Never mind.
According to some reports I've seen Utah has some of highest per capita porn viewership in the country. It goes back to those that are most against it are the most involved in that activity.
Why was he only 'released', or will be soon, and not exonerated, charges dismissed, record wiped clean, etc. And him suing for 15 years of false imprisonment?
Thank-you for the great new word. And I love that if your are stupid you won't know what it means.
"Politicians" like this lead me to think a civil war is coming. If Trump is reelected (I am dumbfounded that is looking like a real possibility) then this shit will get steamrolled thru and the stacked SCOTUS will turn a blind eye to the constitution. The resulting persecuted only recourse will be to revolt. If Trump loses the MAGAshits will make J6 look like a tea party because it was "obviously stolen". Either way I think we're fucked for a number of years. I REALLY hope not but I don't see anybody who can appeal to both sides coming along for a long time. I'm worried we're like a drunk who has to hit rock bottom to realize shit needs to change.
San Diego's Mayor just signed into law the use "Smartlights". https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/san-diego-mayor-gloria-signs-into-law-use-of-smart-streetlights-license-plate-readers/3363157/ A couple of years after they were removed, more likely turned off (so they said) because of the outcry. That was after they were bought and installed without any notice. I didn't know this was even being discussed. I don't live in the city of San Diego, but just like Ms. Gellis, I am there often enough. It's 1984, just took a little longer to get here.
As much as I would not want to live some in places, I'm becoming embarrassed about living in California by these bozos. I don’t think it’s a good thing when we have some of the most extreme assholes on both sides representing us.
Have you heard that the Foxconn founder is running for president, again, of Taiwan? And wants closer ties to the mainland?
I wonder if Meta has the balls to show up to testify but they make a statement essentially saying this. And for Jordan to offer to shove the subpoena up his a**. Answer every question that the question itself is a violation of his 1A rights.
Fox had $4 BILLION in cash set aside for this. The settlement means nothing to them. Just the cost of doing business. Which is why Murdoch had no problem admitting what he did in the deposition. Why spend time and money fighting against it when it didn't matter? Just pay and continue they're game and make the money, and more, back.
And the Discovery brand is so well thought of that they're making it available on Max for streaming. But not adding it to the title. I remember when I liked a lot of the Discovery line-up. There's nothing so good that a CEO can't eff it up!
Sure, go to said service, give them my name + plus all versions of my name that might be used somewhere, address + all previous addresses, date of birth, SSN, all phone numbers, employers, blah, blah, blah; and they'll make sure I never get contacted. More like then I'll be flooded with spam and will never get away from it. Plus have my identity stolen and sold around the world. No, I want a simple setting in my system that says, DO NOT TRACK, DO NOT USE COOKIES. Every website has a different approach to this and it usually involves going to a different page to say I don't want you to do this. A very few enlightened sites ask yes or no on their front page and the answer to that is the end of it. I don't need to go to a different page and check off dozens of different trackers that I want to avoid. As if I would want to avoid all of them except for a short list of trackers that I think are acceptable? BS!
All issues related to privacy should be on an opt IN basis. The default should not be that they get to look at everything unless you go to the hassle of opting out on every single web site, app, etc, that you visit. But then they wouldn't be able to hoover up as much data so it'll never happen. If there is way I could set up my phone & computer to automatically opt out of all data collection I would really like to find it.
That is a good point. As much as it is the company's right to sell or not sell what it wants, it is also the purchasers right to do so, or not, from any company for any reason. I don't think that being a government and announcing the policy publicly changes that. They are letting the public know how the public's money is being spent. With a little grandstanding for sure. My other quibble with the article is "medical decisions should not be political at all, and such decisions should be left up to the patient and doctor and no one else". The pharmacist may be a doctor but they are not the ones making this decision, it is the corporate managers. And they aren't anybody's doctor.
Hmmm
So one of Musk's companies did something that benefited another of his companies. Didn't he recently argue in court that all of his companies are completely separate?
