  • The Insurrection Payout Fund Is Dead. Long Live The Federal Tort Claims Act!

Left out facts can color a discussion

I cringe when I see a news story about Trump's leaked taxes and it ignores that he wasn't targeted but one of 400,000 who had their taxes leaked in a massive leak of wealthy individuals. For some it sounds like he was singularly targeted by his enemies and gains him extra sympathy. It further makes the reader think oh wow that big of a settlement he must deserve it. It also prevents the casual reader from saying well he has to be massively compensated while ignoring if every one of the 400,000 affected got a $10 Billion dollar check there wouldn't be enough money in the world to pay out.

  • Everyone In This LEGO Dispute Should Have Spoken To A Lawyer Earlier Than They Did

Wowsers.... There needs to be a length of story warning at the beginning. I'm used to the normal two to five paragraphs on here. But eighteen page down presses later... just a heads up would be nice.

  • GM, LexisNexis Sued For (Nontransparent) Sale Of Driver Behavior Data To Insurers

    Crashoverride ( profile ), 19 Mar, 2024 @ 10:53am

A friend of mine tried to use the advertised insurance tracking devices that plug into your OBD port and create a detailed report for the promise of a cheaper policy. However a safety feature on his Mercedes-Benz that allows you to give the brake pedal a brief extra press to engage the hold feature. Which is like a hill hold feature it locks up the car from rolling at a light and allows you to relax your leg and take foot off of pedal. Well that extra little push to engage caused him to rack up hard stop reports. Giving him a very poor driving score.

  • IRS Direct File Program Goes Live In 12 States

I used H&R online. As I own a home I started by using the full meal deal package and then it turns out the Trump tax cuts for the rich tightened write off's for homeownership etc... So I only needed the basic. Which as there is now an anti-trust inquiry bears out they make near impossible to awitch to a lower. It involved several phone calls as your locked in after choosing until an agent changes for you. Via chat they wanted my full legal name my full social security number my password, mailing address etc... Everything was to be sent via unsecure chat and was detailed enough that should those agents moon light as scammers not need anything further.

  • Amazon Faces Class Action For Enshittifying Prime Video

    Crashoverride ( profile ), 16 Feb, 2024 @ 08:59am

This extra charge has made the decision easy for me to cancel my Prime membership. This additional charge has given me reason to evaluate my Prime membership. As I only purchase twelve to fifteen times a year and shipping is often free if you spend over $25 the only thing holding me back was justifying the video service and laziness. With that now being of limited dubious value the decision to leave has become quickly evident. Thanks Prime for highlighting how valueless Prime has become.

  • South Dakota Legislature Passes Bill That Would Make It A Felony To Expose Officers To Drugs

When one officer starts going down due to coming in contact with some drug. EMS, fire and ambulances are called to collect the officer off of the ground. Lenders LOVE recurring revenue. With Auto sales being fickle some years being really good some really bad having a recurring income model allows them to go to the banks and say see we can pay our bills no matter the market as we get X per month.

  • The Whole YouTube Radicalizes People Story Doesn't Seem To Have Much Evidence To Back It Up

    Crashoverride ( profile ), 03 Nov, 2021 @ 07:54pm

Furthermore... QAnon is proof that Facebook and YouTube radicalizes people.
People weren't seeking out QAnon material. They weren't radicalized Q supporters prior to YouTube and Facebook. Few if any learned about QAnon from a friend or bus stop. They weren't even instant converts after watching or viewing the one random. It was with repeated repetition that they became believers in the imaginary radical QAnon stories and videos.

  • Liberals And Conservatives Switch Positions On NSA Surveillance Depending On If 'Their Guy' Is In Power

    Crashoverride ( profile ), 07 Jan, 2014 @ 12:10pm

When Bush did the surveillance it was clearly illegal to the point that retroactive immunity had to be drummed up..... and Republicans were still very much in favor and support.

But when Obama continued and didn't stop the Republican spying programs... under newly created Republican laws.... thus having legal cover. Oh hell no.. Republicans now are pissed... and he is doing what their laws gave him cover to do, not blantaly illegally as Bush did.

Despite above my feelings are that the surveillance is highly questionable, illegal and useless.

The missing technology is the ability to buy a digital item and then have the ability to recode in a way that locks it to you and no longer allows studios to muck with. Kind of like being able to change the locks on the front door of your house differently than the the key the builder handed you. Which is a moot point as the studios will never use such and it's easier to utilize an open source solution.

Wait the Telco monopoly for this area doesn't want to disclose costs. What competition would there be to this legacy monopoly system of copper wires?? They aren't being asked to disclose costs on fiber and other such that may garner some competition.
