Data Extinction
from the save-that-data! dept
MIT’s Tech Review has a long, but fascinating, article about the various methods by which people are trying to make sure that data doesn’t disappear. Since computers and software are always “improving”, certain files and data get left behind. People are working hard on a variety of methods to make sure that all of this data is accessible anywhere in the future, whether five years down the road or five hundred years. What I wonder is how the copyright police feel about all of this. I can’t wait for Hollywood to come screaming that these “universal computers” and emulators are really stealing their intellectual property.
