Petitioning Online

from the waste-of-time? dept

It seems that there’s an increasing trend for people to start petitions online. To the people who create them, it seems like a great idea. It makes it easier (they think) to get lots of signatures from people who agree with their viewpoint. Of course, many others think that online petitions are pretty worthless, and do little to convince anyone of anything. People who receive an online petition are much less likely to take it seriously, because no one really believes the signatures are valid. There’s even an online petition to stop online petitions. I would sign it if I thought it would help, but come on, no one puts any weight in online petitions.
