‘Trump Phone’ Still Doesn’t Exist, Pre-Order Totals Appear Completely Made Up
from the grift-upon-grift dept
Last year the fraud-prone Trump organization announced a half-assed wireless phone company. As we noted at the time, calling this a “phone company” is generous; it was just a lazy marketing rebrand of another, half-assed, MAGA-focused, mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) named Patriot Mobile, which itself just resells T-Mobile service. So basically just another lazy grift targeting MAGA rubes.
The centerpiece of this effort was supposed to be a “bold” new $500 Trump T1 smartphone that the Trump org claimed would be “proudly designed and built in the United States” and released sometime last August. Not only was the device never going to be made in the States (all mention of that was quickly stripped from press materials), the August launch date came and went with no Trump phone.
We’re well into 2026 and not only is there still no phone (despite folks plunking down $100 pre-orders), pre-order numbers making the rounds appear to be made up.
The Verge has been doing an amusing job relentlessly tracking this story, and found that claims that the Trump Org had sold 600,000 of the nonexistent devices were completely made up, belched around the internet in a game of lazy telephone that even included California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office:
“There’s just one problem: I can’t find a shred of evidence that this figure is true. In fact, it seems to trace back to a single viral, anonymous X post and is a microcosm of how the modern media landscape and AI chatbots can combine to give falsities the sheen of respectability.”
Very Trumpian.
The phone, had it actually become available, appears to just be a sloppy reskin of a much cheaper sub-$200 phone produced in China; ironic coming from the MAGA folks who’ve spent the last decade whining about the national security threats posed by Chinese companies like Huawei, DJI, and TikTok.
The delays are also quite likely caused by either rank incompetence or the pointless tariffs, which they obviously can’t admit. So the Trump Org has instead been lying and claiming the delays are due to the government shutdown, despite the phone having absolutely nothing to do with the U.S. government (outside of the president’s lazy attempt to continually make money off of it).
Meanwhile Democrats are pointlessly urging the Trump FTC to investigate the fake phone company over its fake phones, which Democrats already know can’t happen because Trump illegally fired all Democratic FTC Commissioners and the remaining officials are hopelessly captured by our mad idiot king (something the NBC News coverage of this didn’t think was worth mentioning).
Anyway, great stuff, no notes, very serious country.

Probably camera problems
Test video recordings still don’t match Kristi Noem’s scene descriptions, and the phone keeps recording when it should have an unfortunate failure.
Of course, nothing deserves to be associated to Trump if it’s not a complete disaster. And he’s working very hard to ensure it.
Re:
And also completely made up, like Trump’s tales of business acumen (which, as was recently pointed out in Techdirt comments, were ghostwritten without Trump’s involvement).
Why didn't they just private label a Blu Phone or Something
I’m surprised that they just didn’t work with an “American” phone products company like Blu Products (I know they are just an importer, but their website emphasizes they are based in Miami) and get a private labeled phone, at least to start, so the only grift is mis-representing it as “made in the USA”.

then they would have to share
profitsI mean expenses.Re:
It’s a hell of a lot easier to make some promises, take money, and basically forget about the whole thing. If people start making a big deal of it, declare bankruptcy.
It’s weird to suggest that a person who has no problem ordering murders is gonna balk at mis-representation.
Just send another $100 and we'll upgrade you...
Trump is just waiting for 6G, since everyone knows 5G causes Covid, and that’s all Biden’s fault.
But...
But, but but, it’s GOLD and it’s made in the USA. How dare anyone take exception? It’s an unbelievable device for a given value of unbelievable.
So … water is still wet?
Do I have to say It?
Can You hear me NOW??
Now?
Now??
How about over here?
Still waters Run deep? says lots about trump.
It aint so deep.
Re: I still like
Where’s the beef?
Re: Re:
No beef, just what comes out of the bull.
Re: Re:
MAGA heads are so far up Trump’s ass, they refuse to have a beef with anything he does. I guess they’re looking for gold.
That darn Trump
Can’t some enterprising blue-state AG have a look-see into fraud?
Maybe we should be encouraging him to waste time on piddly-ass grifts like the Trump Phone. That way he’d have less time to spend on things like crashing the economy, sending thugs out to murder American citizens on the streets of Minneapolis, and blacking his name out in all of the Epstein Files.
Re:
We should be encouraging him to eat random mushrooms he finds in the forest and go skydiving with whatever company has the worst safety record.
“The delays are also quite likely caused by either rank incompetence or the pointless tariffs…”
It’s incredibly generous of you to assume that they ever intended to release this phone at all. My guess is that plan was always farm a bunch of money from pre-orders and then disappear, hoping everyone forgets to ask for their money back.
The Trump Phone doesn’t exist but I’ll keep hoping we get this one. Because I want a phone sold by the world’s highest Erik that spies on people when they jack off and connects to Jacksepticeye. I think that’s so wrong.

Bubba talked five of his mates into ordering the Trumptastic Grifto Non-Existo Mobile Phone. In Donnies mind that equates to 600,000 in sales. see, it’s simple.
“If he hadn’t inherited $200 million, you know where Donald Trump would be right now? Selling watches in Manhattan.” – Marco Rubio
Little Marco underestimated how moneygrubbing his now pal is, given that despite his wealth, despite his power, he’s still selling cheap tat to make a few bucks more.
