Trump Threatens ABC For Doing Journalism About His Reflection Pool Screw Up

from the authoritarians-are-very-sensitive dept

Earlier this year America’s idiot king offered a no-bid contract to one of his ex-con Mara Lago donors to “fix” the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It… did not go well. Said pool is now full of algae and peeling paint, and it’s created an interesting attention flashpoint for the press and another perfect metaphor for the Trump administration’s corrupt crony capitalist bonanza.

As ABC News reports, Trump has repeatedly (and falsely) tried to claim that the disaster is a result of vandalism, despite there being no evidence (the pool is under 24/7 video surveillance):

“Trump first made the claim the lining had been cut in a post on his social media platform on Saturday, saying then that vandals had put a 250-foot-long “gash” in the lining.

Neither the Interior Department nor the White House has provided evidence that the pool lining had been cut.”

Thin skinned authoritarian that he is, Trump doesn’t like when journalists explain how incompetent and corrupt he is. So he immediately took took his personal money-losing propaganda website to once again threaten ABC with lawsuits for doing (what really is fairly innocuous) journalism:

The man is genuinely not well.

ABC did, of course, pay Trump a $16 million bribe in 2024 to settle a baseless lawsuit the company could have easily won. But as Trump’s FCC has ramped up its censorship and harassment campaign against ABC, there have been signs that Disney Corporation is starting to show some backbone.

For example one recent filing by Disney/ABC makes it clear that Trump FCC boss Brendan Carr concocted a fake scandal in collaboration (with right-wing friendly broadcasters) to make it seem like ABC’s Houston affiliate did something illegal. All to manufacture a controversy surrounding Democratic Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico (whose empathy and hot girlfriend appear to upset Republicans greatly).

ABC has also recently been airing spots urging ABC viewers to give the FCC an earful about its multiple, overlapping efforts to censor ABC journalists and comedians. As Trump’s health and political influence wanes, you may see formerless feckless companies demonstrate something vaguely resembling a backbone; assuming they don’t have active mergers awaiting regulatory review.

Trump may have a point about the vandalism, though

Or what else would you call his motorcade driving over the curing lining with SUVs before the water got filled up again? Doesn’t seem like the kind of use and shear strain it has been designed for.

Re: That's slander

There is no indication that he has been interested in molesting prepubescent girls. “Age of consent”, like anything having to do with consent or with legal constraints may be a fuzzy concept to him. But when he started publicly fantasizing about his daughter, she was definitely post-puberty even if not legally of age.

That is not pedophilia. It is not endearing, either.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:—

“We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!”

They paid the dane geld in 24, the threats and demands aren’t going to stop.

If I have this right..

this was Granit/Rock based Pool.
Its supposed to Seep the water threw adn filter and replace it.
All that was needed was a Good heavy bruch to Scraper the Mildew off everything.. And clean out the Filter 1000 times.
WHY Vinyl Line the Whole thing? ITS ROCK. I hope you Cleaned the Surface REAL good before EVEN trying to Adhere to STONE. And if its that Brittle Glue/epoxy, it will Crack and Just Drift around. And replaced in 5 years.

Seriously, it’s not a “screw up”. It was a simple and reasonable sealant job.

And liberals are so fucking unhinged they appear to be cutting up the sealant layer (yes, that’s on video) and dumping in fertilizer. (phosphate levels do not magically increase)

And you are either too stupid to realize that, or lying on purpose.

Re:

I heard it was aliens. The reflection pool was a special landing site for algae-based alien lifeforms and Trump was genociding them with his bigliest most effective ever treatment, so they used invisible space lasers to cut the lining.

It’s true because there’s video of it everywhere on the internet. I’ll cite a video if you cite a video.

Just a reminder for all their screeching about video evidence, the dumb shit cultists haven’t linked a single video.

Also, you can’t “cut” that sealer when it’s applied correctly. It bonds to the concrete. Trying to “cut” it just results in scraping concrete. Scraping it with something sharp is literally a test for making sure it’s applied correctly.

To lie about such easily disproven materials science, I’m starting to believe the “8647” on the mall lawn was an inside job too.

Polyurea coatings can’t be “cut” if they’re applied correctly. It bonds to the concrete. You would need power saws and blade changes to cut that coating, had it been applied and cured correctly.

And phosphorous levels? It would take over a ton and a half of white or red phosphorous to move the needle in that pool by 100 ppm. There are so many reasons this is just fucking silly. The first one that comes to mind is “potential war crimes.” You need “potential war crimes” piles of these chemicals to do what they’re claiming was done. And then the water turns over in 3 days.

They’re throwing people in cages over physical impossibilities, and that should horrify literally everyone.

The coating wont bond very well to stone or concrete that has been under water for near a century years unless you prep it meticulously. Also, I wouldn’t be particularly surprised if a cheap and inferior product was used.

Isn’t it interesting that the arrests happened after the tears was discovered? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: MAGA’s don’t understand linear time, that’s how stupid they are.
