Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt
from the speak-up dept
This week, our first place winner on the insightful side is MrWilson, replying to another commenter who was bandying about the court rulings that erroneously agreed that Biden and the FBI violated the first amendment by coercing platforms:
You mean a conservative think tank shopped for a favorite Trump-appointed judge known for his willingness to insert his ideology into his decisions in a notoriously conservative appellate court district and his decision included glaring factual errors and hyperbole.
That’s not the flex you’re pretending it is.
In second place, it’s mick responding to the idea that banning TikTok is a good idea because “China isn’t playing fair”:
“China is authoritarian, therefore we should throw out the Constitution” isn’t the strong argument you think it is.
For editor’s choice on the insightful side, we start out with a comment from Bob Webster about how the TikTok “problem” (if there is one) will take care of itself eventually:
It’s no accident.
- Over the past year or so the number of ads on Tiktok has increased dramatically.
- The “creators” are going after clicks more than ever, reducing the originality of the average video.
There are still a lot of good informational videos by experts and original, entertaining videos, but they’re getting harder to find amongst the clutter.
In short, Tiktok is on its way to full-blown enshitification. The ban is unnecessary.
Next, it’s That One Guy with a comment about the National Review’s utter misrepresentation of a Supreme Court ruling:
‘Alternative facts’ strike again
When the facts support your argument/narrative, report on the facts.
When the law supports your argument/narrative, report on the law.
When neither the facts nor law support your argument/narrative, just make shit up and bank on your readers either not checking to see if you just lied to their faces and/or being so indoctrinated that they’ll immediately dismiss any evidence that you did so as ‘fake news’.
Over on the funny side, our first place winner is an anonymous comment about our headline for the latest news about Richard Liebowitz. It’s a tad mean, but very funny:
Copyright Troll Richard Liebowitz Finally D
Yes, yes, YES!!!!
sbarred
Fuck.
In second place, it’s Mamba with a quick clapback to a commenter ranting about China-fuelled degeneracy among American youth or whatever:
You sound like the kind of person that can’t live within 300 yards of a school or park.
For editor’s choice on the funny side, we’ve got a pair of anonymous comments, each suggesting some drastic actions Warner Bros. could take in its absurd trademark attack on a Tasmanian football team. First, targeting the animal in question:
Clearly the solution for Warner Bros. to maintain control of its trademark is to render the Tasmanian Devil extinct. I mean, how dare an animal that’s been around for centuries infringe on the trademark of a poor innocent entertainment company just trying to earn a living? Those marsupials have got to go!
😛
Next, getting even more apocalyptic:
No no no. WB is clearly in the right. Merica needs to back them up and nuke the entire island of all these trademark pirates who clearly used time travel to go back in time to name an animal just to steal WB’s trademark!
That’s all for this week, folks!

That month-long break did my mental health some good.
So! Who do I have to insult to get a hearty “welcome back” around here? 😁
Re:
I was wondering where you went! It’s been weird not seeing you at the top of the rankings so often. Welcome back 😀
Re:
You can insult me if you like, but you needn’t spare the effort.
Hope you’re doing well, nice to see you.

Re:
Too bad it couldn’t cure you of your autism.
Re: Re:
People don’t choose to be autistic (and it isn’t a bad thing anyway), but you are choosing to be an asshole. People on the spectrum would have a lot less difficulty if people like you would choose not to be assholes.

Re: Re: Re:
I know.
I’m mocking his affliction.
Re: Re: Re:2
It’s not an affliction. People who choose to be assholes like you are an affliction.

Re: Re: Re:3
Of course autism is an affliction, and a terrible one at that.
Re: Re: Re:4
So what is the reason it is an affliction then and why is it terrible?
Re: Re: Re:4
Let’s say it is an affliction.
I sure as hell haven’t come across a single affliction that got better by being an asshole about it.
Re: Re: Re:4
Sure, if you’re a 19th century doctor who thinks women need their uteri removed due to “hysteria.” You got some phrenology “facts” you want want to expound upon?
Re: Re: Re:4
It’s really not terrible at all. I can live a productive life just fine, my family handles it fine, it’s even helpful sometimes.
Re: Re: Re:4
Actually, you’re not autism. God help the world if you were.
Re: Re: Re:2
And how often do you mock yourself?
Re: Re:
The sourness of your grapes is duly noted.
Re: Re:
Since when is autism a mental illness? This isn’t 1949, you know, ableist dipshit.

Re:
Insult me, Stephey! Or better yet, give me your mpreg babies!
You forgot the ‘i’ at the end of this quoted line as found in the original comment. Adds to the ability to understand the funniness.
“Anarcho-Nazi” is still an oxymoron, and I’m still farther left than the dipshit insisting otherwise.
Re:
Found in a search for the term ‘anarcho-Nazi’. Ignorant dipshit.
