Vodafone Hits 10 Million 3G Users, Right On Time

When Vodafone launched its consumer 3G services back in November 2004, it said it expected to have 10 million users by March 2006, and it said today it’s hit its target with a couple weeks to spare. While the growth fits their schedule, it’s pretty slow going, considering they launched the service in a dozen European countries and Japan, while 3G services now account for just 7% of Vodafone’s business — hardly the big boost the company expected when it shelled out tens of billions for 3G licenses several years back. While 3G handsets have certainly gotten better and come down in price, operators are still struggling to make the case to consumers of why they should shell out for 3G content and services.
