Somebody Needs To Check In With The Home Office

For all of T-Mobile’s talk about embracing the open mobile Internet, we’ve seen before that what they mean by open is open to interpretation. Apparently, the memo about breaking down walled gardens hasn’t made it across the English Channel yet, as T-Mobile UK doesn’t allow users to check external email. Well, it doesn’t allow it unless they buy one of its carrier-branded Microsoft smartphones or a BlackBerry. If people want to get their email on their phone, they want to do it with the minimum amount of fuss, on a device they like. Pretty much every handset sold these days has an email client — if the device supports it, and people are willing to pay the data charges to retrieve email, why won’t T-Mobile UK let them do it?
