Vodafone Finally Launching 3G Phone Service

While they quietly launched a 3G data service for laptops last year, Vodafone is now gearing up to offer 3G phone service in Europe. Initially they’re launching with only Samsung handsets, though they expect more vendors to provide phones shortly. This is a bit surprising, as many people suspect that other 3G rollouts were held up by the lack of compelling handsets. You would think that any new entrant would do their best to make sure that the variety and quality of the handsets wasn’t even an issue. There are still some questions about pricing, but just last month Vodafone lowered their data rates, so hopefully they’re realizing it’s counter-productive to charge too much this early in the game.
