Will .mail Help Stop Spam?

from the good-question dept

Techweb is looking at Spamhaus’ request for a .mail domain as a method of stopping spam. Basically, the idea is to create a behind-the-scenes top level domain that mail servers could use to verify if mail was coming from a trusted-non-spammer. It’s still not entirely clear how this will work. There is also the concern that legitimate users could get blacklisted – as seems to happen way too often due to people deciding that legitimate mail is spam. For example, Techdirt is currently blocked by some ISPs. If there’s an easy and reasonable process to deal with such false blocks, it’s an idea worth exploring.
