More Mobile Commerce In Japan
More evidence of mobile commerce catching on in Japan. First comes news of a new test that DoCoMo is running on their iMode service with Visa and Nippon Shinpan (another credit card company) to let mobile phones act as credit cards. The details of exactly how the system works are not clear, but it will apparently work at merchants that accept either type of credit card. Meanwhile, on a much smaller scale, West Japan Railroads is introducing storage lockers where users can pay by mobile phone. To either lock or unlock the door, the user needs to call a special number.
