Does Mobile Access Make Sense For Businesses?

Not much to go on here, but an analyst has written up a piece for Computer Weekly pointing out that many companies are offering mobile access to corporate data to their employees and asks the question of whether or not it’s worth it. Of course, the answer isn’t clear – and you really don’t need an analyst to tell you this: if well thought out and well implemented, clearly, mobile access to data can help productivity quite a bit. However, there are lots of upfront costs and lots of reasons why implementations will go poorly (won’t work well, training won’t be good, the tools really aren’t that useful, etc.). So, the end result is a hedge answer: yes, it’s important for some companies, but not if they screw it up.
