Hutchison Upbeat On 3G – Can Only Go Up From Here…
Hutchison, providers of the incredibly overhyped 3G launch in the UK that found sales well short of expectations is now claiming that they’re upbeat about the prospects for 3G. Of course, they are. They’ve spent all this money, and it’s unlikely things can get any worse. They now claim that 120,000 people in the UK have signed up – showing that they’ve gotten quite a boost since they dropped their prices considerably. Of course, the lower price strategy means less focus on advanced features and less money per user for Hutchison. Still, it will be interesting to see if they can salvage the offering after such a dismal start. Update by Derek: First half results from Hutch released today show a $500M loss in it’s 3G operations in the UK, Italy, and Oz – bearing in mind that losses should be expected in the first years.
