Dating Site Not Liable For Fake Actress Profile

from the service-provider-keeps-their-hands-free dept

A former Star Trek actress has lost her case against an online dating site. Apparently, someone posted a fake profile of the actress, including her home address and phone number. After receiving a few calls she claims she felt unsafe and had to move out of her house. Clearly, her privacy was violated, but it was the fault of whoever put up the profile – and not the site itself. The judge agreed, and said that since the dating site was only a “service provider” they were not liable for the posting.
