Qwest Goes MVNO With Sprint PCS

As was rumored last week, Qwest has done a deal with Sprint PCS to basically resell their Sprint PCS Vision offering. Qwest will rebrand the offering, and will handle all the sales, billing and customer service. What will be interesting is to see how well they do. Since they’re offering the exact same thing, what hook will they have? With most MVNOs, it’s a specific brand (e.g. Virgin) that has an established reputation with a specific group (in the Virgin example, teens) and then markets something special specifically to them. Right now, the only group that Qwest seems to have a special in with is current Qwest customers, so they’re probably going to try to bundle this with other Qwest offerings. Going beyond that, to sign up new customers, though, may be more difficult, since they won’t really have any competitive advantage over Sprint PCS.
