Rogers Wireless CEO Sees A World Of Cellular And WiFi
Wasn’t Scott Rafer just telling us that cellular carriers were being threatened by WiFi? He enjoys heckling Techdirt, so consider this some heckling back. It appears that some carriers are at least trying to “embrace” the innovator’s dilemma problem they’re facing. The latest is the CEO of Rogers Wireless in Canada, saying that wireless carriers, such as his own, need to “suppress their competitive urges” and figure out ways to make sure their mobile phones can also roam over public WiFi networks. This doesn’t mean they won’t screw it up, but there certainly have been some signs that the wireless carriers are grasping (just some of) what’s going on.
