Cisco To Ship Wi-Fi Mobile Phone

We’re getting closer and closer to the day when it doesn’t matter what network you use or what device. Devices will hunt around and pick the best network and use that. The latest step towards that goal is Cisco’s announcement that they’re going to be shipping a WiFi-enabled mobile phone that does voice over WiFi. It doesn’t have cellular capabilities (yet!), so it’s just designed to be used within a single location where there’s WiFi available, but it’s not a huge leap to see how you can add cellular functionality as well. When you start to have an IP-enabled phone that can work anywhere, the possibilities for what a phone can do begin to change in fairly amazing ways.
