Charging For Online Content Still Hard To Do

from the well,-of-course dept

Yet another study pointing out that most people really don’t want to pay for content, though, it once again, seems to confuse services with content. It also says that content providers are trying to figure out how charge for things that once were free. That, of course, is the wrong way to go about things. You should never try to “take something away” and charge for it after it’s been free. People simply won’t see the value. There’s a ridiculous quote from Newsweek’s Michael Rogers saying that, “There is too much free stuff out there. We have to wait until it all clears up.” He might be waiting for quite some time. What he should be doing is figuring out what kinds of services they can offer on top of their content which allows them to make money. That’s what a good business does.
