Priceline.com Buys Into Travelweb

from the can't-let-history-repeat-itself dept

Worried that a strong hotel industry-owned site like Travelweb might take a big bite out of their business the same way airline industry-owned Orbitz has, Priceline.com has decided to strike first and has bought a piece of Travelweb. They’re also saying that they’re going to replace current supplier, Hotels.com, with Travelweb in their Hotel listings. Of course, as we recently discussed, sites like Travelweb aren’t designed necessarily to get the best price, but to get business back from third party hotel sites (like Hotels.com). Since Priceline is pretty clearly attracting people who want the lowest cost whatsoever, it would make more sense for them to be a bit more agnostic in whose hotel booking database they use.
