Net Porn Is Big Business
from the well,-of-course-it-is dept
In case you weren’t sure, it turns out that online porn is big business in the US. Some lucky Datamonitor “researchers” got to investigate the topic in a recent report, which found that online porn is a $3 billion business these days, and in many ways has become mainstream. The article quotes the usual suspects complaining about how damaging porn is to society and even mentions that the state of Utah is planning to offer a “virtual 911 button” that people can press any time they get porn spam – which will simultaneously block the user from receiving any more spam from that particular sender while notifying Utah’s attorney general. Yeah, I’m sure that will stop porn spam. Why didn’t anyone think of that before?

I have nothing against porn in principle…but don’t you find it sad that porn drives a lot of the technological advances online?
Re: Porn and technology
Porn drives more technology that just online technology. Why do you think VCRs have become so ubiquitous? Instead of schlepping down to your x-rated store to go view some porn, you could now go to the back room in your movie rental place and watch it in the privacy of your own home.
