It seems that the web is quickly becoming a smaller and smaller place. No longer can systems without any sort of security in place try to use a “security by obscurity” method of protecting their data. Thanks to Google, hackers are having an easy time finding completely unprotected databases online. The article focuses on a single example of doing a search on a common FileMaker Pro phrase, and discovering hundreds of unprotected online databases, including one that had detailed patient records for a medical school.

… “filetype: .mdb” searches?
It’s absolutely frightening the number of web crawler accessable information out there. Anyone who doesn’t think information wants to be free and easily searchable needs to have their head examined.
