Microsoft vs. Symbian

IT-Director.com compares the costs and benefits of developing smartphones with Microsoft and Symbian OSs. Their conclusion is that Symbian is the clear winner due to lower licensing costs and suitability for wireless devices. On paper all of this makes sense. But what they don’t take into account is Microsoft’s ability to change the nature of the battle and make it about integration with their other products. While they mock the need to access Word and Excel files they don’t mention Microsoft’s real advantage, Exchange integration. We haven’t seen much in the way of Exchange support for Series 60 or Symbian UIQ.
