Hands On 3G

Hutchison let two Dow Jones reporters check out their upcoming 3G service. H3G chose the test locations to assure perfect coverage, indicating the network still has bugs to work out even with the impending March launch. In testing the 3G service the reporters asked “will 3G sell?” Their conclusion: “a resounding maybe.” H3G has been hyping the video features and likening the launch of their service to the launch of television. Video calls and downloads worked fine in the reporters limited testing. A 90-second video clip took 40 seconds to download. Video calls worked but were tricky to set up. The reporters also found that the video calls were even more distracting that voice calls (surprise!) and found themselves trying hard to avoid bumping into fellow pedestrians on the busy streets of London and Milan.
