KDDI Posts 3G Success, Raises Forecast
Here’s a lesson for telecom companies: cheaper, but good enough, will win out over more expensive technology – even if that other technology is “better” from a technology standpoint. This is the same mistake technologists always make in believing that the “better” solution will win, even when “better” in the eyes of the consumer doesn’t just focus on the technology, but many other factors as well. So, it’s really not a surprise that KDDI’s slower, but cheaper 1x service is beating the pants off DoCoMo’s 3G offering. KDDI reported that there’s strong demand for their service, and they’re even raising their estimates, based on the demand.
