FCC Scraps Plans For Merger Guidelines

The FCC has backed down from a plan to create merger guidelines for wireless carriers – who are all expected to start merging with abandon sometime in the near future. Instead of guidelines, the FCC says they’ll just use existing standards and their own judgment on a case by case basis. This will require more complete explanations for why they reject mergers, but the wireless carriers are happier, since they won’t have another set of specific guidelines to meet (beyond those from the Department of Justice).
