Barney Cam Replaces Tours At The Whitehouse
from the everything-goes-virtual dept
A Washington Post writer is complaining that the holiday tours of the White House have now been replaced by a terrible online video of a dog giving a quick White House tour due to “security concerns”. Sometimes, it seems, the online version of something is no replacement for the real live version.

Why not build an authentic Pink House, the color of the granite facade before British troops in the War of 1812 burned it down? (They covered the blackened stone with white paint to turn it into the White House).
That way, it will be open to all the redneck tourists who beat the hell out of their kids, change diapers in public, and nobody will be embarassed for it. Yeah, when I used to live in the Wash DC area, every time I went to the Mall (downtown DC), there would be the school buses full of kids from Nebraska with the same milkman for a father.

I do live in the DC area – my basic rule is that we do not go into the city between Memorial Day and Labor Day. However, the museums, etc are quite enjoyable in Jan and Feb without the crowds.
