New Names Good For Dot-Coms

from the ditch-the-dot-coms dept

The same group of professors who did a study a few years back showing that adding a “.com” to your name made your stock price jump have now shown that, these days, removing the “.com” from your name makes your stock price jump. Of course, companies that did both have done even better overall. As they say in the article, this gives you just some idea of how irrational investors are. It seems that the effect of changing your name to jump on (and off) a hype bandwagon has a noticeable effect on stock price – even though it has nothing to do with the fundamental business.
