Retailers Outfit Stores With Tech

from the augmented-reality dept

Yet another story about how retail stores are adding all sorts of technology to better track… I mean, improve the customer shopping experience. With all the stories about this (and they all seem to mention the Prada store in NY), there’s been no indication of whether or not customers actually find any of these high tech stores useful.

Machines just get in the way

When they talk about “using certain wireless devices as a portal” within the store, is that a euphemism for making someone’s cell phone ring with an automated ad?

Maybe these stores need to take a page from Japanese “Telephone Clubs” and provide $100/hr “Shopping Accompaniment Services” for upscale customers.
