Satellites Add Zip To Wireless

For the handful of people who can’t get enough GPRS access, Inmarsat has the solution. Their oddly named Regional BGAN service is a hybrid GSM/Satellite data service for those who need wireless data access in and outside of developed areas. The modem is $1500 and the service costs $10-15 per megabyte transferred. Pricey, yes, but not a bad deal if you need to connect to HQ from the middle of an oil field.
