Sprint PCS Roaming Into Wi-Fi

Sprint PCS is apparently taking a page from the T-Mobile playbook and is starting to build its own network of wifi hot spots, which they’ll offer as part of their regular service plans. The article says they’ve signed an agreement with someone to let subscribers roam on hotspots – and it doesn’t take a genius to guess that it’s with Boingo, since Sprint PCS has an investment in them. They’re also working on ways to let users roam on hotsports offered by different carriers – so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. At this point, with coverage being so spotty, it makes sense. But, as companies like T-Mobile build out their own wifi coverage, they could decide to only offer access to subscribers who pay them directly.
