Michael Malone’s latest column looks at some of the latest advancements in memory technology that could have quite an impact on future computing. It focuses on the recent discoveries concerning “atomic” memory – using atoms placed on silicon to store bits. While memory storage has continued to increase relatively rapidly over time, he suggests that this discovery could lead to a standard hard drive which could store 1 quadrillion bits – enough to hold 300,000 DVDs.
