AT&T Launches GSM In NYC

AT&T has finished its planned 2002 GSM roll-out this week with the launch of service in New York City. The service still has substantially less coverage than the company’s TDMA network, but they plan to continue expaning coverage through next year. From the coverage map it looks like their GSM network is second only to T-Mobile’s, with Cingular in third place. This makes T-Mobile a less interesting acquisition for AT&T, but makes it more appealing to Cingular.
