Reducing The Costs of Enterprise Wi-Fi

Symbol Technologies has released a new line of WLAN products that it believes significantly reduce the costs of deploying WLAN for enterprises. Its Mobius product uses inexpensive radio nodes connected to a central router that handles authenication, routing, etc. This way enterprises can purchase many low cost nodes and only require one router. Most other systems require deploying full accesspoints which bundle the radio and router functions. Besides enterprises this approach might make sense for airports, hotels and other public location. The downside is that the nodes must be connected to the server via wired ethernet connection.
