Computer Associates To Expense Stock Options

from the one-by-one-they-fall-into-line dept

Following the lead of Amazon, it appears that other tech companies may slowly start changing their accounting practices to expense stock options. The latest to make the move is Computer Associates who say that any options issued starting next year will be expensed as stock options. I get the feeling, despite all the fear and yelling from many tech companies, that this won’t have much of an effect on anything. It simply changes the numbers written on a piece of paper and has nothing to do with how well a business is really running. Analysts will be able to do the basic math to account for the difference.
