Carriers Getting More Say In Handset Designs

Motorola has signed deals with Verizon, Cingular, AT&T Wireless,VoiceStream and Vodafone to create custom phones for each carrier. Motorola will use its c330 phone as the base and will customize the exterior and software to help carriers differentiate their version of the phone and go after specific target markets. This is a smart move to stay in favor with carriers and hold onto the number 2 handset maker spot. But it’s not an original idea. Motorola is stealing a page from Sendo’s playbook.
