Ron Sommer Gets The Boot
A couple of weeks of intrigue that started off with AT&T and Voicestream merger talks have come to an end today with Ron Sommer resigning as CEO of Deutsche Telekom. This should put off wireless merger talks until Sommer’s replacement Gerd Tenzer announces his restructuring plans which will aim at restoring investor confidence in DT. Personally I think Voicestream is in play more than ever due to the CEO change. The Voicestream acquisition was Sommer’s deal. Now that he’s out, it might be easier to sell it or merge it with another operator and just write it off as one of Sommer’s more expensive mistakes. Update: Gerd Tenzer has been named deputy CEO. Helmut Sihler is the new CEO. Both will hold these positions for six months.
